The Rotokawa Geothermal Area is a high-temperature geothermal system located within the Taupo Volcanic Zone, approximately 10 kilometers northeast of Taupo, New Zealand. Covering an area of roughly 15 square kilometers, the field features dramatic surface features, including fumaroles, collapse pits, and hydrothermal eruption craters. It is notably home to Lake Rotokawa, an acidic, sulfate-rich lake surrounded by extensive sulphur deposits and areas of geothermal vegetation that support unique, rare plant and wildlife habitats.
