Mineral divide lake

 

The image features a geothermal lake where a recent water level drop has created a stark visual contrast on the surrounding vegetation. The upper, previously exposed portion displays an orange hue due to the accumulation of trentepohlia and iron oxide deposits from consistent exposure to geothermal steam and gases. Unlike the upper area, the lower, now-exposed section is free of the orange buildup, having been previously underwater. This distinct division marks the former water level. The abrupt boundary reveals a substantial and swift water level reduction of one metre or more.
