- Acidic red mineral geysers
This is a remarkable feature. A large red plain of bubbling mini geysers. These fluids, driven by subsurface heat, leach iron from surrounding rocks and precipitate (likely) schwertmannite upon encountering oxygen at the surface. Scattered throughout are darker, often irregular patches. These could represent areas of different mineral composition, accumulated sediments, or variations in the concentration of schwertmannite. There is a very high release of gases, including hydrogen sulfide.
