Mount Taranaki (or Mount Egmont) is a stratovolcano located in the North Island of New Zealand. It rises to 2,518 meters and last erupted approximately 150 years ago. A secondary cone (Fanthams Peak) is the result of a flank eruption.
Taranaki is considered dormant and will erupt again. Eruptions have occurred on average every 90 years and there is a chance of eruption in our lifetimes. This volcano is particularly hazardous with significant risks of pyroclastic flows, lahars and lateral blasts.
