Purchas Hill (Te Tauoma) is a scoria cone volcano located next to Mount Wellington in Auckland. It started as explosive/wet eruptions, forming a surrounding tuff ring. When the volcano turned dry, it built a scoria cone reaching 50 meters high. Whilst it erupted prior to the imposing cone of Mount Wellington nearby, it was heavily modified by this eruption. Not much the volcano survives today and has been extensively quarried.
