- El Salvador Volcanoes
El Salvador, a small country in Central America, boasts a chain of impressive volcanoes that contribute to its stunning landscapes and fertile soil. These volcanoes are a part of the Central American Volcanic Arc, formed by the subduction of the Cocos Plate beneath the Caribbean Plate. While many of El Salvador’s volcanoes are dormant or extinct, some remain active, occasionally spewing ash or lava. The most active volcano is San Miguel, also known as Chaparrastique, which last erupted in 2023. Other notable volcanoes include Santa Ana, Izalco, and San Salvador, each with its own unique characteristics and history.
