You can often find some pretty wild islands and rock formations tucked away in the more remote harbours of New Zealand. We particularly like this one. If you want to visit it, be prepared to get very, very muddy.

This specific stack is likely the last standing remnant of a cliff line that succumbed to wave erosion, leaving a lone pillar. The rock is approximately 30 million years old and is formed of ancient marine life and mud that hardened under the ocean floor. Over millions of years, layers of lime rich shells alternated with softer clay, and tectonic shifts eventually pushed the whole seabed up out of the water. Since then, the sea has been eating away at the softer layers faster than the hard limestone, creating that distinct structure.
