- Weeping Well Cave
Weeping Well Cave, a small cave formed within fractured basalt, is situated at the base of a depression. Notably, this cave features a pond. Such pooling of water within lava caves is exceedingly rare, with this cave being one of only two known examples within the Auckland Volcanic Field. Access to the cave is challenging, requiring navigation of a deep hole prior to entry. The cave passage follows the contour of the depression’s base, with a few minor branches extending southward. The cave’s dimensions are insufficient to justify a formal survey.
