  7. New Zealand’s largest ice...

While hiking deep in Fiordland National Park, New Zealand, I discovered a hidden gem that took considerable effort to reach. Navigating through dense bush, treacherous river beds, loose scree, and steep mountain slopes, I finally found a small opening near a glacier.

What I encountered was breathtaking. The cave had a perfectly circular entrance that opened into what must be the largest ice cave in New Zealand ever discovered. Stunning shades of blue painted the walls, creating an ethereal atmosphere. The cave stretched at least 500 meters long, with a high ceiling. At its far end, a majestic waterfall cascaded from the mountain peaks, flowing into the cave’s interior.

However, the ice was melting rapidly, and the environment felt precarious. Potential ice collapses made my exploration unnerving. I’m uncertain whether this magnificent natural wonder will survive the summer heat, but we’re planning to return soon.
