The Redwood Forest that isn’t in Rotorua

 

Most people know the famous Redwoods in Rotorua, but there’s another stand just as impressive hidden deep inside a massive commercial pine block. It barely sees a soul all year. These trees were originally planted right alongside the Pinus radiata decades ago, but the foresters eventually realised redwoods aren’t actually that great for milling. Because they were useless for timber, they were just left alone while the surrounding pines were harvested and replanted around them. Now, they’ve grown into absolute monsters, tucked away on private land where nobody even knows they exist.
