Waimangu (Raupo Pond) Hydrothermal Eruption

A vent located in the Raupo Pond Crater (Waimangu) has erupted for the first time in 35 years. We visited the eruption site and found mostly mud, water and steam had been ejected. Nearby vegetation had been mostly browned off, with very little destroyed. The floor of the crater was not warm. It was likely a short-lived event.
