Onepoto

Onepoto is an explosion crater and one of the oldest volcanoes in the Auckland Volcanic Field (approx 200,000 years old). It is surrounded by a high tuff ring. The crater was once a fresh water lake before being breached by the sea, changing into a tidal lagoon. Today, the land has been reclaimed and turned into sports fields and a small pond. Parts of the tuff ring were removed during construction of the nearby motorway.
