A swarm of earthquakes near White Island, New Zealand started on May 23 and have continued for over a week. More than 400 earthquakes have been recorded with the largest magnitude of 3.9 recorded on May 25 at 18:16:14 UTC.

Geonet believe the earthquakes are tectonic in nature and unrelated to magmatic activity, however could cause landslides at nearby White Island. So far, there hasn’t been any changes in the volcano’s activity.

White Island’s alert level remains at 1, indicating minor volcanic unrest.
